My grandparents had quite a large garden when I was a child. They had several apple trees on their property so my grandma would make this applesauce to have with our meals every day. Now I see why, it’s super quick and delicious and as a bonus it helps prevent food waste!
This is perfect recipe for when your apples are starting to get mushy before you can eat them up. You only need three ingredients for this recipe. Depending on what type of apples you use you may want to add sugar as a forth ingredient.
Since I grew up eating this I never liked store bought applesauce. I have a feeling you won’t enjoy the store bought either after trying this recipe. I hope you enjoy.
Homemade Applesauce Recipe
Ingredients
Apples cored & peeled (whatever you have on hand)
Ground cinnamon
A little bit of water
Optional: sugar if you want it a little sweeter (I like it as is & the apples are usually sweet enough for my liking)
Directions
Peel & core apples
I’ve used as little as 3 or as many as 12, whatever you have on hand will do
Dice the apples
Put them into a medium sized saucepan
Put in a little bit of water to start 1-2 TBSP (or more if you want it thinner)
Cook on medium-low heat
Add cinnamon to taste (I really like cinnamon)
Stir so the apples don’t burn
They will start to get softer after about 15-20 minutes
Once they are soft you can start to mash the apples a bit
My grandma would always leave some apple chunks in there so I do the same, I love the texture with some of the apples still chunked in the sauce
If it is not thin enough for your liking then add more water, if it is not sweet enough add some sugar, and of course you can mash the apples completely if you’d prefer.
Enjoy! You just made homemade applesauce.
